...better late than never...

story time.  i want to remember this moment forever.  i can't believe it has taken me this long to write it down.  better late than never, right??!!
on april 27, 2011 matt had a dream i was pregnant.  he had a similar dream on april 28, 2011.  so on april 29, 2011 i finally gave in and took a test, just to check. i took it as soon as matt left for work that morning.  and his dream came true!  immediately.  i had taken lots of pregnancy tests over the 4+ years of marriage leading up to this moment and i knew the drill.
1- pee on the stick...or if you are like me and prefer to dip it in the cup after you pee.
2- distract yourself by doing something for 3 minutes while trying not to get hopes up
3- come back to see one line (negative result)
4- throw the stick away and bury it at the bottom of the trash so nobody sees it.
not this time though.  as soon as that stick was dipped, there were two lines.  i was in shock.  i started screaming, crying, laughing and running around the house like a crazy woman.  it got drama excited enough that she started running around and barking with me.  it's a good thing that nobody saw me at that moment.  but then again, i just wrote it on the www so what does it matter?!
i had to work at 1:00 that afternoon and matt had lunch from 12:00 to 12:30 that day.  i had to tell him in person and i couldn't wait till that night when we were both home from work.  i texted him telling him i'd bring him lunch at noon so we could hang out and eat together before i went flying.  we do this all the time.  nothing out of the ordinary and i think i am being sneaky and am going to spring the news on him on our little picnic.  in the meantime i go to walgreens to get another test just to make sure the first one was right before i go announcing it to matt.  i get the digital kind this time.  this is serious business...spell it out for me.  i go home and i am barely able to pee enough to take another test but i still dip it.  pregnant.  immediately.  again.
i get the house picked up and ready for work.  i try to think of how i am going to tell matt our great news.  i am not creative at all.  i put the pregnancy tests in a ziploc bag, gotta contain those nasty things, and write a little note.  i decide on jimmy johns for lunch so i stop and grab us sandwiches on my way to matt's office.    i park in front of the building and wait.  finally i see him walking toward the car and i am already getting teary.  pull it together tatum.  he gets in the car.  it's strangely awkward. i'm nervous. he can tell. small talk.  how are you?  good.  how are you?  good.  you look nice.  thanks, so do you.  thanks.  well, should we eat?  sure.  I hand him the jj's bag.  he pulls out the ziploc bag with the note and tests that i sat on top.  a huge smile spreads across his face.  i start crying.  he says he knew it.  i cry harder.  how did you know?  i just knew.  he gets a little teary too.  we cry and laugh and hug and kiss and talk for the next 30 minutes.  matt tells me that he just knew.  he said he was so positive that i would tell him i was pregnant today that the thought "when tay tells me she's pregnant today, should i take the rest of the day off of work to be with her?" even crossed his mind.  this man knows my body better than i do.  it is amazing.  he can tell me when i am going to have a period before i know or think i am going to (and i am not regular at all, so this is pretty impressive) and he can tell me when i am pregnant before i know or think i am!

the note in the bag says:
DREAM COME TRUE!  see you around 1.1.12 daddy!

not too creative but kinda sentimental.  having a baby has been a dream of mine since, like, forever.  when i married matt he wasn't quite as anxious as i was so we waited a few years before trying...which was a really good thing.  then when we though we'd start down that road it turned out it wasn't going to be very easy for us to get pregnant so we spent a while only dreaming of what it would be like to have a baby.  then matt had 2 dreams that we were having a baby.  and he was right.  as usual.  it really is our dream come true.
all teary eyed after the big announcement
one of the best moments in my life

30 minutes went by fast so we kissed goodbye and matt said something like, so what do we do next?  ha.  good question.  i told him i would call my doctor and find out.  i texted him later and told him that our first doctors appointment was on may 12, 2011...my 26th birthday and i couldn't think of a better birthday present.  on may 12th, we saw our little one on the ultrasound screen and it was so awesome.

on mothers day 2011 we were packing to go down to see my mom for the weekend and matt called to me from the bedroom and said, "hey hon, what bag do you want to pack your stuff in?" i told him it didn't matter since we'd only be there for a day. he said, "how bout this one?" i was in the other room and couldn't see which one he was talking about so i walked into the bedroom and he was holding the cutest diaper bag up.  he said, "happy mother's day baby!" i was not expecting that one at all.  he is the best.

before i was pregnant i found it a little odd when couples would say, "we're pregnant."  i always thought to myself, no YOU'RE not pregnant, SHE is pregnant.  get it right people.  but guess who totally says "we're pregnant?"  matt does.  and i think it's the cutest.

oh, drama is pretty excited too.  this is how she told her grandmas that she was gonna be a big sis!

So excited for you. Being a mommy is the best thing in the world. As far as baby stuff goes. The things I used the most were, my boppy pillow for breast feeding, bouncer, and swing. I hardly used the high-chair, I think we will just get the kind that strap to the. Kitchen chair if there is a next time. My babies loved the exasaucer it strengthens their legs. There is so much more, but for the most part I think you kind of need to figure out what works best for you and baby. What worked for my first baby didn't always work for my 2nd. Good luck! You will be such good parents.

I'm with Cindy: high chair that straps to a normal chair, bouncer for sure, Sandi never liked any swings...you can test ours out first before you buy one if you want, exercauser is a MUST-plus these things not only will be loved by the baby but you will love it too because you know they are safely restrained playing while you get things done (like shower LOL);)

That is the sweetest story! How cool that Matt just knew! I had no idea you guys had been trying so long. I am so excited for you!!! Oh and I LOVE my chicco carseat by the way! We actually have the whole travel system, a chicco high chair, and a chicco backpack for hiking. I seriously love that brand. And don't worry about the 6 pounds, I gained TEN pounds in one month with Jackson, half of my entire baby weight gain! You look great!
